Overwhelming Response in Favour of Recapitation

Meeting Monday 20th March to discuss the special characteristics of a year 7/8 education at Amesbury...

Thanks for responding to our brief survey seeking your views on recapitation. The response has been overwhelmingly in favour of seeking recapitation again. We had over 50 responses in the first hour of the survey and over 120 in the first 24 hours.

Over 90% saying “yes” provides us with a clear mandate to go ahead and put an application together for recapitation.

Are you interested in having the choice of your child remaining at Amesbury School for year 7/8? (159 responses)

  • Yes, I am interested in Amesbury School becoming a full primary (years 1 - 8)   147 responses
  • No, I would rather Amesbury School stay as a contributing school (years 1 - 6)   3 responses
  • I don't mind either way   9 responses
  • Other   0 responses

However, I agree with the comment by a parent that we would have to offer something different from the other options that are available. Hence, I would like to meet with interested parents to explore what our school community would want from a year 7/8 education and what its “special character” might be.

Given that the closing date for applications is 1 April, we are offering two meeting times next week to discuss the special characteristics of a year 7/8 education at Amesbury School. These are:

  • Monday, 2 – 3pm in the hall

  • Monday, 6.30 – 7.30pm in the hall.

We have been building positive relationships with the schools in our network and we are planning to do some useful work in teacher development with them this year, so I would like this conversation to be a positive one not a negative one.

Several questions were raised by parents. I will answer these in a separate article. I just wanted to get the results out at this point in time and let people know of the meetings.

Once again, thanks for being so responsive and filling out the survey so quickly.
