Primary School News

Janine Jack —

Year 1 to 4 teachers are now in Week 5 of our teaching and training for Better Start Literacy – a structured literacy approach. We really appreciate the positive feedback we have been getting from parents and whanau.  As you are seeing changes at home, we are also seeing changes in children’s spelling attempts and decoding skills at school. If you have any questions, please ask or follow the links below to the Better Start Literacy homepage

www.betterstartapproach.com

and page that has information for families.

Teachers who are currently training will continue to teach this approach until the end of the year and then assess the students.  We are currently working on what information our end of year reports for Year 1 to 4 students for Literacy will contain.  They will have information on progress and achievement using the Better Start Literacy Approach.

It's our Primary Side Pet Day year so we have booked Friday October 18th.  We really struggled to find a date that would fit in our calendar this term so next term is the soonest we can hold this much anticipated event!  You will have received a pamphlet containing entry information, so please watch out for these. Let your child’s teacher know if you do not receive one. In the meantime, we would love to see some more calves and lambs at our pet day, so please help encourage your children to bring a calf or a lamb if you have access to one.  For those children who do not have a pet, please consider bringing a favourite soft toy for our soft toy section.  There will be information and reminders coming home early in the first week of next term. Please keep a watch on the school Facebook page and on your class Seesaw accounts for this information.

I’m beginning to look at numbers for 2025 and class structures will be based on these.  If you know of any four-year-olds who will be turning five next year, please let me know by sending me an email kylee@amuri.school.nz .  Te Kooti needs careful projection planning so we can accommodate all new entrants throughout the year and give our young learners the equivalent of two or more years in the junior school before entering Year 3.

Welcome to Anam and Ysavana in Room 1. They recently started their school journey with Ms Jamieson after turning five.  Welcome to Amuri!

Have safe and happy holidays with your children and we look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday 14th of October.

Ngā mihi nui
