Secondary School News - 27.09.2024
We have reached the end of a jam-packed quality learning and assessment term. Congratulations to all the students for their stellar effort with the many exams, sporting tournaments and staying on top of completing internals.
Term 4 is a short few weeks away, so spend the time over the school holidays studying and preparing for the final external exams in November. That said, balance is key. Ensure that you also exercise, have fun and eat healthy for optimum output in Term 4.
Congratulations to Bianca Del a Vega on her election to the Board of Trustees for 2025 as the Amuri School student representative. We have also started the process for selecting the 2025 Kaiārahi — Prefects team. The names of the successful students who have been selected to be in the student leadership team for 2025 will be announced in Term 4.
As I write this piece, another Bianca, Bianca Jamieson and her Clean Kau invention are participating in the Christchurch Innovation Expo after placing first in the North Canterbury Young Enterprise Scheme. If successful in the next round of the competition, Bianca could be invited to compete at the Nationals later in the year. Well done, Bianca.
A group of 21 senior students have just returned from an epic trip to Wellington for the WOW (Wearable Art Show), alongside visiting the Weta Workshop, Toi Whakaari (NZ Drama and Dance School) and the Ringa Toi Art Exhibition at Te Papa. What a fantastic experience and a great trip with so much packed into a few short days. Thank you to the staff and Mrs Danette Moriarty for their support.
This is a reminder that Mr Hewitt will be running Visual Arts workshops during the holidays to give students the opportunity to come to school and work on their portfolios for submission next term. Workshops will be held on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of Week 1 and Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of Week 2.
Wishing all students a safe and fun holiday break. I look forward to seeing you all in Term 4.
