Another term comes to a close and a busy one at that. We finished the week with school interviews and you may be interested to know that 67% of the 380 bookings made were in person with the remaining 33% by Zoom. This combination of delivery methods clearly suits and will be the solution for the future. The school production was definitely a highlight of the term for me as was the Matariki dinner with so many of our community involved in so many ways. The school formal went off without a hitch last weekend with many comments on the good conduct of our students. Thanks to Hannah and Celine for their hard work putting this together and the parent army who helped set up and clean up.
Over the Term Break
Best of luck to our Junior SISS Netball team heading to Christchurch to compete for four days and to our Area Schools, North Canterbury and Metro representative netball players in the second week. I would like to thank Cath Ferguson and Danielle Kaye for coaching and leading the netball in Christchurch and Dorz Jansen and Wally Jamieson for taking the boys to Dunedin in the second week. Without this kind of support from our community, making these things happen would be so much harder. I am looking forward to seeing some of the games next week and heading down to Dunedin to support our players.
Uniform
Much improved this week, thank you to you all. The students are looking much smarter with the absence of trackpants in Years 9-13 noticeable. I would like this to continue into Term 3.
Farewell to Mr Anink
Another notable moment this term was the retirement of Mr Anink after 24 years of service to our school. Bruce has given so much of his time and energy and set many a student on the track to a future career. He leaves the technology department in the capable hands of Mr Adrian Black.
Visit to Tuahiwi Marae
A staff delegation of nine went along last Friday to Tuahiwi for their educators day which is a prerequisite for us to engage with the Marae and take students there in the future. This was a fantastic learning experiecne for us as we learned the protocols specific to Tuahiwi. We have more staff groups going throughout the year to cement this relationship into the future.
Have a wonderful term break with your child/children, enjoy it for the precious gift that it is.

Junior School News
Kia ora Parents and WhanauIt’s the last week of what has been an exceptionally busy term. We’ve had two visiting shows, our own school production and student report writing. This was all combined with a Children’s University trip; our school, the Hurunui Zone and the Canterbury primary school cross country races; the 40 hour famine running; creating a new class; our Matariki celebration featuring our wonderful Kapa Haka group and last but not least, parent interviews. It’s safe to assume we are all looking forward to a break!
It was great to see so many of our students out rogaining on Sunday at the Amuri Rogaine. Well done to all the supervisors who got the children out there doing it. I’m sure some great memories were made. There were certainly many conversations about sore legs and the perils of matagouri on Monday!
Matariki print making from Room 4
Next term we have a new class starting. The oldest Year 1 students will be moving from Room 1 into Room 1A with their new teacher, Ms Natasha Gillard. Natasha has been in our school doing relieving over the last 12 months and is looking forward to starting her own class. We have a number of new entrants who will be coming to school before the end of this year so Mrs Johnson’s class will grow in numbers.
In the last fortnight we have welcomed Gus into Room 1 with Mrs Johnson and Indy has joined our Year 3 class with Miss Dryden. Welcome to Amuri!
Dee Shanks will also be returning from maternity leave and resuming her part time position teaching in the primary school, and we look forward to seeing her back in Term 3.
Have a safe and happy holiday with your child/children and we look forward to seeing you back at school on July 26th.

HEALTHY WINTER HOMES
It is certainly "that" time of year where we are all being faced with a myriad of illnesses, viruses, and germs in our community and we want you to ensure that you get a chance to rest and recharge rather than being sick for the break. So keep up the handwashing, covering of the face when you sneeze and cough but most importantly to minimise social contact if you are unwell. This helps to keep not only yourself well, but also helps protect our vulnerable in the community.
Also at this time of year, it is really important to do a quick check of your Home Health. Nasty mould can start to build up without being very visible causing all sorts of respiratory concerns. With the holidays ahead, and children needing to earn their keep, perhaps they can help out?? ( I am a Mum too, wink wink) Here are some tips to ensuring your home, and therefore you, stay healthy.
• Open your windows a little each day to allow ventilation from the air outside and keep it circulating with fresh air flow inside• Open the curtains to prevent moisture and mould build up against the wet and condensation off the glass.• Keep your home warm, but allow some air flow daily• Wipe down the inside glass of all your windows regularly using a window cloth or simply vinegar and news paper/kitchen towels. Have a look on the cloths for black mould, this may surprise you what you have wiped clear.• Get the children helping out, a good way to fill in some time inside over the winter break• Borrow a dehumidifier if you can once in a while to help clear the home of unwanted moisture. Things like showering, cooking, heating, breathing and drying your laundry inside all adds to moisture buildup in the house• On a good day, get the blankets off you bed out in the sun on the line to have a dose of sun and wind to kill bugs.• Lastly, get out in the fresh air often, wrap up and head out to catch some valuable sunshine on your face and warmth on your back while getting a good dose of fresh air. Its natural and powerful.
Have a fun winter break, and stay well.
