Principal's Report

Pauline Simpson —

Move It March

It was lovely for our teachers to be able to walk to school today with students as part of the walking school bus. Thank you to everyone who joined the walking bus today, including those students who were dropped off to meet one of the groups so that they could walk with us instead of being dropped off at the school entrance. We will be running the walking school bus each Friday in March and we will have some spot prizes each assembly day this month to acknowledge students who have used active travel to get to school.

Orokonui Trips

Four of our classes have been to Orokonui Ecosanctuary this week, with the remaining classes going to Orokonui the week after next. Thank you to parents who have volunteered to come along as parent helpers on these trips. We are very fortunate to have such a great resource in our area for our students to access and I’m looking forward to seeing all the rich learning in classrooms that we see as a result of these trips.

I am very appreciative of the great support the school gets with paying the school contribution donation as this is how we fund these trips. If you have not yet paid this, you can arrange with the office to make weekly, fortnightly, monthly, termly or lump sum payments.

Sea Week

Connecting with our community and habitats around us.  We loved seeing the beautiful sea creatures Nga Tipu made in their classroom.

Personal Mobile Devices

As you will all be aware, the Government has introduced regulations that require all state schools and kura to have student phone rules in use. Andersons Bay School already has a policy about personal mobile devices coming to school. The current policy can be viewed below. Please can you remind your children that if they do need to bring a personal mobile device to school for after school use, it must be handed in to the office before school and collected from the office after school. Students are not permitted to have a mobile device on them during school hours. This includes smart watches as well as mobile phones. Thank you for your support with ensuring your children understand these rules.

"Personal Mobile Devices

We do not recommend that students bring cellphones or other mobile transmitting devices to school. These devices are not necessary to have during the day. However, we understand that some parents like their children to have a device to communicate with them after school.

If a student does bring a mobile transmitting device the following guidelines apply.

  • The school does not accept responsibility for lost, damaged, or stolen devices.
  • Students must hand their device in to the office before school.
  • Devices are to be collected by students from the office after school.
  • If a staff member observes a student with a device during class time, the student must hand it to the staff member immediately when asked. The device will be kept in the office and can be collected by the student at the end of the day.

If a parent needs to contact their child urgently during the day, they should call the office. Students are not permitted to use a personal mobile device at school."
