Principal's Report
Week Seven
Today the school was treated to a fantastic performance from the Taki Rua travelling theatre company, who performed Te Aka Tawhito for us. This was a really engaging performance and a great model for everyone as we work towards our own production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream on 26 September. With the dress rehearsal next week, the show is really coming together. Don’t forget to buy your tickets from the Regent Theatre. There’s plenty of room for everyone, and it’s a great show to invite extended family and friends to.
Otago Polyfest
Our Kapa Haka group will be performing at Otago Polyfest on Thursday 12 September at 2:36 pm at the Edgar Centre. If you have time to go along and watch them, I know they would love a big audience! Polyfest is also an opportunity to be inspired by other Kapa Haka and Pasifika groups. Please check the Polyfest timetable below for a list of all the performances. It would be great to get a group from school going along together to watch some of the evening performances. If you were keen to go on Thursday evening, please let the school office know and we can co-ordinate a group who could sit together to watch.
Structured Literacy
This week our leadership team hosted a seminar at Andersons Bay for Deputy Principals, Assistant Principals and Team Leaders from primary and intermediate schools across Dunedin. This was an opportunity for our team to showcase our Structured Literacy journey for other schools. We are excited by the difference this approach is already making for our students and we feel confident about implementing the refreshed English and Mathematics Curriculum next year. These documents will support the mahi that teachers are already doing in these subject areas and they are well aligned to our current approach.
Parking
This is a further reminder about parking outside our school, particularly in Jeffery Street. Please remember that children’s safety MUST come before the convenience of parking close to the school. We have put a chain across the boiler driveway as this is definitely a no parking area. We had a near miss this week as a car reversed out of this driveway into the path of children before school. Children must be able to walk along the footpath to school without cars reversing into them. Please support us to keep our children safe.
Otago Cross Country
Today we had 8 senior students competing in the Otago Cross Country. They all ran well and did a great job of representing the school.
Have a lovely weekend.
