Principal's Report
Week Five
Move It March
Over the month of March our teachers are offering a Walking School Bus option for students and families on Friday 7, 14 and 28 March. This is part of the Dunedin City Council’s “Move It March” initiative. We would love to have your children join us with walking to school together on these days. It’s also a great way to get families connecting so that children can walk to school together every day.
Each Friday in March at 8:15 a.m. teachers will be at the following locations:
Corner of Cranston Street and Silverton Street
Corner of Duckworth Street and Stirling Street
Corner of Calvert Place and Highcliff Road
Teachers will start the walk to school at 8:20 a.m. Please join them at one of these locations if you can.
All students will receive a Challenge Card to take home today. Students are encouraged to fill this in at home each time they walk or wheel to school. At the end of the month students hand their cards into the office and we will hold prize draws. The Dunedin City Council has provided us with lots of great prizes, including drink bottles, hats, Bowl Line passes and Moana Pool passes as an incentive to be active during March.
School Athletics Day
On Wednesday, 12 March we will be holding a whole school athletics event. We welcome parents and whānau along to be part of this day.
Māhuri and Puāwai students (Year 1 - 3) will be involved in a rotation of Running, Jumping and Throwing activities from 11:15 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Parents are welcome to come for some or all of this time. The Māhuri students (Year 1) will be based on the playscape and the Puāwai students (Year 2 and 3) will be based on the courts beside the swimming pool for their activities.
Rākau students (Year 4 - 6) will complete a full athletics day from 9:30 a.m. - 2:45 p.m. These students will compete in age groups rather than class groups.
Further information about athletics, including a timetable of events, will be sent out separately.
Quarantine Island
Thank you to parents who have offered to come along on one of the Quarantine Island trips. If you are keen to come but haven’t put your name forward yet, we would love to hear from you. It promises to be a great trip for each class.
School Contribution Donation
As we plan for our Quarantine Island trip, it has been fantastic to get such strong support with the payment of our School Contribution donation. A reminder that if you haven’t paid this yet, you still qualify for a 10% discount if you pay today. You can also choose to set up a regular payment if that suits your family better. The Contribution payments make trips like these possible for our students.
