Priest in Charge - St Alban’s Anglican Parish Eastbourne

Diocese of Wellington —

St Alban’s Eastbourne seeks to appoint a Priest in Charge to a position which reflects the reality of the Anglican church in the 21st century.

The position is for 4/10, with the main focus on the spiritual aspects of ministry and a limited focus on administration. The appointment is for a minimum of three years and will be supported by a strong vestry and a parish administrator.

The applicant will:

  • lead, inspire and spiritually grow St Alban’s faith family
  • build teams and leaders, confidently delegated to share Christian messages in the community
  • demonstrate skills in welcoming and working with young people and families
  • expand our ministries of pastoral care, hospitality, and retreat
  • encourage continuous cooperation between faiths in our community
  • respect our traditions, yet challenge us to boldness and embracing new opportunities

If you are a spiritual leader who finds joy in God’s word, is strongly people and community oriented and enjoys sharing in God’s creation, then St Alban’s Eastbourne could be your next parish.

Nestled between the bush and the sea, Eastbourne is thirty minutes’ drive from central Wellington or a twenty-five minute ride on the ferry. This provides the opportunity for using other skills or the option of working from home using our reliable internet connections

St Alban’s is a committed faith family, actively contributing to the community, offering outreach and hospitality and having shown resilience with the impact of covid. Our community is proud of its village atmosphere, high quality local schools and access to outdoor recreation on our doorstep.

St Alban’s currently worships in the Wellesley College Hall in Days Bay after earthquake reports in 2016 found our own church building and hall to be below seismic standards and requiring closure. Our parish is working actively to return to its historic de Jersey Clere church as an all-hours base for our missional outreach.

Subsidised occupancy of a vicarage adjacent to the church or a housing allowance could be negotiated.

If you’re keen to learn more about the potential of this interesting position and to grow and share your faith journey in Eastbourne, please ask for our Parish Profile from the Bishop’s assistant Paul Carey (paul@anglicanmovement.nz) to whom applications including a CV should be sent by Wednesday 19 July.
