Author, poet and speaker Strahan Coleman says that spiritual formation as fully embodying all that we have and are in Christ

I caught up with Strahan Coleman this morning. He was in Christchurch contributing to the Spiritual Directors National Conference. I asked him about spiritual formation which he defined as the process of embodying all the truth we believe as Christians. It's intensely practical and involves all of life. At its most basic, spiritual formation is the daily, small, habitual decisions that form us the most. It involves prayer, meditation on God and God's word, the decision to love others, to say something kind, to be generous and to acknowledge those that we might not naturally associate with. We're being constantly formed by something - will it be culture, digital media and society or will it be God?
