New altar frontal at St Andrew's Oxford
On Sunday July 30th Archdeacon Dawn Baldwin visited St Andrew's Church in the parish of Oxford-Cust and blessed a new altar frontal designed and made by interim priest-in-charge Rev'd Felicity O'Brien.
The parish already had several patchwork frontals but not a green one for ordinary time. There is also a large pieced curtain made by many volunteers several decades ago. Felicity has enjoyed making patchwork since her mother (Glennys Ward, whose patchwork can be seen at St Mark's Opawa) first attended a class in the late 70's.
This altar frontal was made from pieces donated by parishioners, many of whom used to sew but no longer can, and pieces from Glennys' and Felicity's leftovers. Other fabric was obtained at virtually no cost from Creative Junk. No new fabric was bought—it is a completely sustainable, environmentally-friendly piece!
