SOMA Mission Trip to the Diocese of Kondoa, Tanzania

Peter Akester —

Rev'd Peter Akester from the Parish of Rangiora shares briefly about this trip in August 2023.

This trip took place over two weeks in early August this year. The Diocese of Kondoa is still counted as a mission diocese in the Church of the Province of Tanzania. The team consisted of seven New Zealanders representing two parishes. The parish of St. Stephens, Whangaparaoa and the parish of Rangiora. Rev. Ian Hardcastle headed up the team with his wife, Helen and Toni and Michael, parishioners (Whangaparaoa) and they were joined by Anton and Christine Nikoloff and Rev. Peter Akester (Rangiora).

Seminars were conducted in the South Western area of the dioicese. Magungu, Kubi and Hamia were the church centres we spent most time in. One of these, Kubi, was a newly established church. Each had other church congregations attached to them. The teaching sessions were on praying for healing, deliverance and forgiveness with the aim of training those in the churches to continue with that ministry after the seminar was over.

We saw people come to faith in Christ, grow in the power of the Holy Spirit, and many were healed and some people delivered from evil spirits. We were greatly encouraged to see God in action over the time we were there.

The whole area was badly affected through lack of rainfall in the last rainy season which ended in late April. Rain is not expected again until December.
