In addition to the events advertised elsewhere, the following events are coming up in our Diocese.

Wednesday, 13 December

  • 7.30pm — Blue Christmas Service at St John's, Rangiora.


Friday, 15 December

  • 2.30pm — Silent prayer, St Anne's Chapel at the Parish of Opawa-St Martins until 29 December. We invite you to write down your prayers and tie them to our Tree of Light in the Chapel - you may also like to light a candle. Festive food and new gifts (please don't wrap them) can be left under the tree for the City Mission until 17 December.A collection box for the Christian World Service Christmas Appeal will be available.


Saturday, 16 December

  • 5pm — Family Christmas Story at St James, 1750 Cust Rd, Cust.
  • 7.30pm — Christmas Carols by Candlelight w Rolleston Brass Band on the lawn at Church of the Resurrection, Rolleston.


Sunday, 17 December

  • 9.30am — Third Advent (Holy Communion) at Church of the Resurrection, Rolleston.
  • 10am — Carols and Readings at St Peter's Akaroa.
  • 10am — Choral Eucharist Music: The Cathedral Choir at the Transitional Cathedral.
  • 10am — Nine Lessons and Carols: An ancient service where the story of God's relationship with humanity is revealed in a rich offering of scripture, drama and music to move the soul. All Souls Church 30 Church Lane.
  • 10am — A Service of Lessons and Carols at St Stephen's, Lincoln.
  • 10am — Combined Family Service with focus on our 'mainly music' children (pre-schoolers) but open to all ages at St Augustine's, Cashmere.
  • 10am — Solemn Mass at St Michael and All Angels. 
  • 10am — Children's Christmas Service at St Aidan's Church, Mt Somers. 
  • 10.30am — Nine Lessons & Carols at the Parish of Methven.
  • 10.30am — Nativity Play at Sumner-Redcliffs Parish.
  • 11am — Combined Ecumenical Christmas Service at The Regent Theatre, Weld St, Hokitika.

PM

  • 2pm — An Edible Christmas Workshop at All Souls Church, Merivale.
  • 5pm — Nine Lessons & Carols at St Barnabas, Fendalton.
  • 5pm — Nine lessons and carols (service as usual in the morning) at Amberley Parish.
  • 5pm — Combined Ecumenical Christmas Service at St James, Franz Josef.
  • 5pm — Community Carols in the Churchyard at St Paul's Papanui.
  • 5.30pm — Bring your Picnic dinner, 6pm start: Community Christmas Carols (Avonhead, Russley, Ilam, Upper Riccarton and Fendalton areas) in a new all-weather location! University of Canterbury, at the Engineering Core Building, also known as Rata Building. Parking is free on campus or people can park on the avenues around the university. It is a very short walk to the building (see Google Maps), hosted by St Christopher's Avonhead.
  • 6pm — Carol Service at St Martin's, Loburn.
  • 7pm — The Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols Music: The Cathedral Choir at the Transitional Cathedral.
  • 7pm — Nine Lessons and Carols at St Michael and All Angels. 
  • 7pm — A Blue Christmas, Service of Remembrance at St Mark's, Greenpark.
  • 7pm — Community Carols, BYO chair/rug to sit on the lawn if the evening is warm at Amuri Co-operating Parish.
  • 7pm — Blue Christmas (a service of comfort for those who have experienced loss and grief) at St Martins/St James, 50 Lincoln Road, Spreydon. 
  • 7pm — Nine Lessons and Carols at St Mary's Halswell, Prebbleton.


Tuesday, 19 December

  • 11am — Lessons and Carols at St Andrews Church, 107 Marriotts Road.
  • 12.05pm — Holy Eucharist at the Transitional Cathedral.
  • 12.30pm — Cathedral Choristers sing at the Airport.


Wednesday, 20 December

  • 10am — Wednesday Congregation service and lunch following.
  • 10am — Christmas service at All Saints, Hokitika.
  • 12.05pm — Holy Eucharist at the Transitional Cathedral.
  • 3pm — The Children's Christmas Service with Animals at the Transitional Cathedral.


Thursday, 21 December

  • 12pm — in the Hanmer Memorial Hall by the Anglican Church of the Epiphany: bring your own drink, snacks and gold coin donation. Registration to Sarah Gardiner 0210 831 5549. 
  • 1pm — Christmas Carol Recital by the Cathedral Choristers at the Transitional Cathedral.
  • 6pm — Opening of Christmas Tree Extravaganza at St Faith's, New Brighton. If you would like to participate, please contact the TWA Office 03 388 9118 or Rev'd Katrina 029 770 3098.


Friday, 22 December

  • 6pm — Children's Nativity service at St Mark's, Sedgemere.
  • 6pm — Blue Christmas at St Barnabas, Woodend. Short quiet service for those who are grieving and who find Christmas a little hard this year.
