Sabbatical opportunities for Anglican women

You are invited to contact the Center for Anglican Communion Studies (CACS) to apply for a sabbatical period on the campus of Virginia Theological Seminary by Thu, 29 Feb 2024.

Successful applicants will enjoy accommodation and meals free of charge during the period of the sabbatical and will have the opportunity to visit classes and attend worship.

The goals of the Center for Anglican Communion Studies are to equip international community, empower intercultural leaders and enrich Episcopal-Anglican identity. You can learn more about us in our video https://vts.edu/global-impact/center-for-anglican-communion-studies/

We are particularly encouraging applications from women from the Global South

as the great majority of interest to date has been from men.

We will be selecting applicants on 1 March for the coming academic year, but we will gladly receive applications for future years as well. Applications for future years beyond ’24-’25 may be sent any time.

The deadline for applying for 2024-25 year will be Thursday, 29 Feb 2024.

A sabbatical shall normally not be longer than one month (dates to be negotiated), though other requests will be considered. The Bishop Payne Library at VTS has an exceptionally fine collection of materials from around the Anglican Communion.

Applicants will enjoy the use of library facilities and study spaces to complete their own projects. They will be asked to present insights from their personal and professional context to a VTS community audience at a CACS-sponsored lunch or evening event, and/or to write apiece pertaining to their own context for the Anglican Commentary or another VTS publication.

Lay or ordained applicants from throughout the Anglican Communion are encouraged, but please note that priority will be given to applicants:

  • from the Global South of the Anglican Communion;
  • who are under the age of forty;
  • who are women in leadership; and
  • who have served the church and/or academy for at least five years.

A travel grant may be available.

Interested persons should email Hartley Wensing, Associate Director of the Center for Anglican Communion Studies (hwensing@vts.edu) providing a full résumé and a personal information form.

Decisions are made by the Director of CACS in conversation with the Vice President for Academic Affairs. Virginia Theological Seminary: Anglican Communion Sabbaticals application documents here.
