Visiting the Christ Church Cathedral site

Photos of within the rebuild in Sept 2023 and outside the construction site in Dec 2023.

In September 2023, I had the privilege of entering the Christ Church Cathedral with a group of clergy on a special visit, led by Bishop Peter a day before Synod started. It was my first week at work as the new Communication and Media Advisor.

We were briefed outside the building before entering cautiously with some anticipation. Scaffolding was everywhere (thankfully, no sign of any pigeons) and only I was allowed to take photographs of the building site. As we listened to the latest building update and the stories of discoveries, I noticed the old floor tiles which sadly will not all be saved. Each column was carefully reconstructed and the many tonnes of concrete poured was astounding.

In December 2023, I was asked to take photographs of Bishop Peter and Dean Ben for the 2024 February Avenues article launching our Anglican Fundraising Campaign. International and domestic tourists alike, wandering outside the building site are curious, taking photographs and noting the 2027 timeline.

What will the future of our Cathedral be?

Let's go to the upcoming 20 Feb Christchurch and or 21 Feb Timaru event(s) to meet / worship together, and then prayerfully decide.
