Why changing Sunday morning service times can strengthen the mission of a local church. by Mark Chamberlain

Change is hard - but let's do it for the sake of younger generations!

Merivale-St Albans Parish is changing service times to enable a new family-friendly service to be planted.

Megan Herles-Mooar, Vicar of St Albans-Merivale, is in the process of introducing significant change to her parish. The 8am and 9.30am services are to combine to become a new 9am service which leaves space for a new 10.30am family friendly service which is to be launched in May. Her advice to all those involved is:

"Take the risk for the future that people took for you."

She also reports that everyone has shown an "amazing amount of grace!" The parish vision is to grow their ministry to younger generations and this vision for growth and effective mission is proving to be exciting and empowering for parishioners. When the vision is clear and compelling people are more likely to embrace the change involved. Megan has also been careful to explain the reason for the changes, the steps involved and the timeline.

She is also setting up a core group of people who will lead the new 10.30am service and reaching out to families who could become part of this new congregation.
