Aquinas Y7 & 8s Show Top Form at AIMS Games

Lorraine Schofield —

Aquinas’ youngest athletes took on the nation’s best at the revived 2022 AIMS Games, battling everything from arctic weather to sunburn during the one-week marathon of sport.

Cancelled twice due to COVID, AIMS Games saw our Year 7 & 8 students compete in 12 sporting disciplines from water polo, badminton, rock climbing to hockey.

The many Aquinas highlights include…

  • Vaughan Murray was named the second-fastest Y8 runner in NZ after finishing second in the 3km cross country.

  • Swimmers Cleo Sands, India Scholes (both Y8) and Y7s Addison Sands and MacKenzie Jury won bronze in the Girls Medley Relay race.

  • The Boys’ Football team finished fifth after an outstanding tournament.

  • Y8 Mixed Water Polo team finished fifth overall!

  • Sepp and Quinn won second place in their badminton division
