Key Info On Upcoming Derived Grade Exams

Aquinas College —

Derived grade exams for senior students start in three weeks, running from Wednesday, September 21 until Tuesday, September 27. The timetable is featured below.

Derived grade exams are for students in Years 11-13 and in 10P. The exams provide valuable practice for upcoming external examinations as well as evidence for top academic awards, such as Dux. Additionally, they serve as a backup grade option. With COVID and other illnesses so prevalent in our community, the exams may provide evidence towards final grades if a student is sick or otherwise unable to sit final NCEA exams.

Please note the following exam information:

  • Students who are onsite for exams and/or study must wear school uniforms.

  • If Y11-13 students do not have exams, they do not need to be at school. If they choose to be at school, they can study in the library or may attend SDL/tutorial sessions onsite. Art and Technology learning areas will advertise Self Directed Study options so that students can work on projects/portfolios.

  • Morning exams run from 8.45 am until 11.45 am, and afternoon exams from 1.00 pm until 4.00 pm. All exams are three hours long except those marked with an asterisk, which will run for two hours. Please note this may impact transport home or part-time work. Students will need to manage this.
