Aquinas Students Shine at BOP Athletics

Lorraine Schofield —

Congratulations to Year 8 students Vaughan Murray and Maria Tustin who blew away the field at the recent BOP Year 7 and 8 Athletics, winning the top male and female athlete awards.

Vaughan won the event’s 300m race, 800m, and 1500m and was second in the 100m and 200m sprints. Maria won the 100m and 200m races, as well as the high jump and long jump. Phenomenal performances!

Ten other Aquinas students also competed, including Year 8 field star Richard Salanoa who secured victory in both the discus and shot put events. Lucas Stringer, also Year 8, won the 100m and 200m. Loimata Paaka and Louie Gash completed the Year 8 line-up, with Loimata placing second in the shot put and discus, while Louie was third in the 100m.

For the Year 7’s, Paige Mennie won the long jump followed by Karlah Freemantle in second place. Harry Grosso clinched third in the 100m race, the high jump and long jump, while Cooper Guthrie finished third in the 1500m. Lachlan Murray claimed silver in the 800m and 1500m and bronze in the 200m. A spectacular effort from all our athletes.
