RNZAF Strike a Chord with AC Big Band

Aquinas College —

AC Big Band students were recently treated to the inspiring sounds of the 65-member Royal New Zealand Air Force Band.

Students were privileged to hear a variety of repertoire at the February concert held at Tauranga Intermediate. The performance included an impressive drum line number, a vocal ensemble with the band and technically demanding works.

The Royal New Zealand Air Force Band is the musical arm of the Royal New Zealand AIr Force, which is based in Wellington. It’s part of the Air Force Reserve and is composed of part-time musicians. The band is also a pathway for young performers wishing to pursue a career in music.

The 65-member band includes several smaller ensembles including the Parade Band, Symphonic Band, RNZAF Jazz Orchestra, Woodwind Trio, Clarinet Quartet, and Brass ensemble among others.
