Aquinas Students Shine at Winter Tournament Week

Aquinas College —

Let’s hear it for our amazing student-athletes who made Aquinas proud at Winter Tournament Week! After a two-year, COVID-induced hiatus, Winter Tournament Week finally returned and saw our students achieve outstanding results. Even better, they acted as great ambassadors for our school.

A special note of thanks to the New Zealand Community Trust (NZCT) which generously granted Aquinas funding for students’ Winter Tournament accommodation and travel costs. The grant reduced students’ costs by about $100 each! Support such as this is invaluable in helping students participate in rewarding but expensive trips such as this. https://www.facebook.com/NZCommunityTrust

Winter Tournament Week delivered many team and individual achievements but some of the Aquinas highlights include…

  • Our Premier Netball team finished third in their C-grade, winning elevation to the B-grade next year! Y13’s Georgia Verhoven was named to the Tournament Team.

  • Basketball: The Girls team finished fifth and the Boys sixth - qualifying them both for spots in next week’s Secondary School National Champs in Palmerston North.

  • Y11 climber Kieran Death won silver at the NZ Secondary School Climbing Cup.

  • Y9’s Konrad Wisnewski achieved silver at the NZ Secondary School Wrestling Championships in the boys’ 52kg class.

  • The Aquinas Boys Hockey team narrowly finished second in Tier 4 after a sensational Tournie.

  • Tori Cousins (Y10) placed third overall in the 90-1 metre showjumping class.
