Aquinas athletes made an impression at last weekend’s North Island Secondary School champs, claiming six individual medals and three relay medals!

Leading the medal haul, Yr 11’s Holly Faussett won gold in the U16 girls 300m hurdle, silver in the intermediate girls 800m (second-fastest ever), and gold in the girls U16 4 x 400m relay with a record-setting time.

Hamish Murray (Yr 12) came home from Palmerston North with three medals; bronze in the intermediate boys 1500m, and gold in both the 800m and 4 x 400m relay. Younger brother, Vaughan, (Yr 9) won gold in the junior boys 800m and clinched fourth in the 1500m. And older brother, Callum, (Yr 13) placed fourth in the senior boys 1500m and sixth in the 800m.

Rounding out the NISS medal haul, Aquinas sprint speedster Kaitlyn Black (Yr 11) had a sensational meet, winning silver in the intermediate girls 4 x 100 relay and bronze in the intermediate girls 100m. All five athletes were part of the Waikato-BOP team.

Congratulations all! The continued success of these top-level athletes is inspiring to watch!
