Aquinas Again Leads Young Innovator Contest

Aquinas College —

Another proud Aquinas moment! Huge congratulations to Y8’s Thomas Magill and Y13 students Daniel Evans and Kalarn Mark who won their categories at this month's yia! Young Innovators Awards. Aquinas dominated the awards, scooping the top three Intermediate-level places and top two Senior category awards.

Thomas won the Intermediate section with his GFE (Goodbye Fire Extinguisher) for trail bike riders. The internal extinguisher system eliminates the need for riders to carry a fire extinguisher with them when riding in commercial forests.

And Y7 trio Lachlan Talbot, Colby Thompson and Francis Markham scored second place with their first-ever yia! entry. And the Y8 team of Ivy Barrett-Hodgson and Elia Szulakowski was judged third.

Daniel and Kalarn won the Senior category with their MAIBAND invention, a medical IDwristband that uses NFC technology to transmit patient medical data to paramedics. The Aquinas Y11 team of Erin Moore and Holly van den Borst won second place. Well done to all our finalists and to Andrew Howells for shepherding Aquinas’ continued yia! success!
