Young Aquinas Swimmers Take on NZ Elite

Aquinas College —

A round of applause for Y12 Aquinas swimmers Ava Sands and Zoe Wilkinson who achieved impressive podium results at last week’s NZ Short Course Swimming Champs.

Ava won gold in the women's (16 years) 200m backstroke, while Zoe won silver in the women's (16 years) 400IM and 200m butterfly.

The 16-year-olds then took on NZ’s top female swimmers of any age group.

Ava qualified for the Open section 200m backstroke A final where she lined up against the 10 fastest women in NZ. Her fast results also got her into the Women’s Open 50m and 100m backstroke B finals featuring NZ’s top 20 swimmers.

Zoe qualified for the women's Open 200m butterfly A final, 400IM A final, and 200IM C final, pitting her against the best in the country. The result caps off a successful season for Zoe, who also won bronze at the NZ Secondary School Swimming Short Course Champs for the 200m butterfly in July.

Short Course events are raced in a 25m pool instead of 50m one, requiring more turns from swimmers. Astounding results ladies!
