Students Shave Locks For Cancer Fundraiser

Aquinas College —

Congratulations to the generous Aquinas students who shaved off their hair this month to raise money for Kiwis living with blood cancer. Year 9 students Jasper Norton and George Holmberg were among the few who lost their locks for a good cause, with Jasper raising an outstanding $2,400!

Jasper decided to shave his long locks (grown since the first lockdown) because he thought fundraising for Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand was a great cause, while George did it to remember loved ones and support cancer patients. George raised an impressive $318, and Y13’s Auryn Symonds raised about $500! And the Y8 team of Dylan Ball and Max McCawe raised $1,161 (Max $122 and Dylan $1,039!) Y13 student Dylan Beilby also took part in the event.

Aquinas’ annual Shave For A Cure took place September 15 in the Gym before a crowd of students who each donated a gold coin to watch. Senior students, chosen friends and Assistant Principal Isabel Jeftha were the hairdressers for the day, with some showing considerably more scissor skills than others! The event was organised by the Health Committee.
