Aquinas Students Competing at NZ Track & Field Champs

Aquinas College —

Good luck to the four Aquinas athletes taking on the nation’s best at the 2023 NZ Track and Field Championships in Wellington tomorrow.

Holly Fausett (Yr 11 ) and Murray brothers Vaughan (Y9), Hamish (Yr 12) and Callum (Y13) all won selection to the Waikato-BOP team for the event. Two former Aquinas students also made the squad: Harrison McGregor and Joseph Millar.

Live results from the three-day event are available at https://live.athletic.net/meets/19838

It’s been a stellar summer for Holly, who won the U16 girls 400m, the U18 women's 1500m, and the Y16 girls 300m hurdles at the Waikato BOP Champs last month.

The Murray brothers also medalled at the Waikato BOP Champs, with Vaughan winning the U16 boys 400m, Callum second in the U20 400m and Hamish fourth in the U18 men’s 400 behind Aquinas Yr 12 runner Ollie McFarlane.

This follows winning performances at the NZ Secondary School Track, Field and Road Race Championships late last year. Holly won gold in the junior girls 300m hurdles and bronze in the 800m. Hamish scored bronze in the junior boys 800m and fourth in the 1500m, and Harrison silver in senior boys discus and shot put.

Callum also finished a spectacular third in the U20 NZ Mile event.

Meantime, Vaughan at the North Island Colgate Games came second in the Boys U13 800m and 1500m. Hamish also was part of the BOP U19 boys futsal team that finished third at the National Youth Futsal Championships late last year.
