Today, we’re focusing on Year 12 basketballer Dan Day who has been globe-trotting from Houston to Manila this month for his sport.

Dan travelled to Houston, Texas at the start of August for the invitational basketball tournament, the Global Summit. It draws the top 200 Filipino players from around the world for three days of competition and networking. Guest speakers include top coaches and Filipino players from the NBA.

Following that, Dan jetted to the Philippines to trial for Filipino universities interested in recruiting NZ players. He and other NZ-based Filipino basketballers visited up to three universities a day, performing a weight-room workout, basketball workout, and games at each one. The intensive eight-day trip also included two games against the towering Philippines men’s team.

Dan hopes to receive a recruitment offer from one of the universities he visited. He has been playing basketball since Year 10.
