Former Aquinas Water Polo Player Makes Rugby Sevens History

Aquinas College —

Another Aquinian in the headlines… A huge Aquinas shout-out to alumnus Kiahi Horan who made rugby history in the USA last month.

He was part of the triumphant Mount St Mary’s University team that won America’s National Collegiate Premier Sevens Championship.

Not a bad rugby result for a water polo player! Kiahi, who is brother to Yr 13’s Leilani, is at the Maryland university to play water polo but in typical Kiwi fashion also ended up on the college rugby team.

Fast forward to last weekend when Kiahi and his team scored a major upset by defeating top-seeded Indiana. The championship is America’s largest collegiate rugby tournament, featuring 122 teams, 300 matches and drawing an estimated 20,000 fans.

Kiahi, who has represented NZ in water polo, is studying sports management at Mount St Mary’s, which is a Catholic university. Congratulations from your Aquinas whānau Kiahi!
