Studio2
South Dunedin’s Studio2 is dedicated to fostering a vibrant and inclusive artistic community, providing an environment that encourages experimentation and creativity for artists with learning disabilities.
Celebrating the unique perspectives and innovative approaches these artists bring, Studio2 highlights their mahi through exhibitions, workshops, and collaborative projects.
The studio is guided by six talented local Arts Facilitators—Anna Muirhead, Bekah Carran, Sepastiano Tavite, Phoebe Ryder, Georgina Young, and Beau Cotton—who support artists in group projects and individual practices.
Founded in 2004 as an offshoot of Connections Day Centre by Bryan and Kaye Murray, Studio2 began by connecting artists with learning disabilities to the broader creative community.
Currently, Studio2 showcases a Matariki show of hand painted whetū created by its artists and is collaborating with the unofficial City of Literature South D Poet Lorikeet Jenny Powell, on a book project. The studio also features nine artists exhibiting at Webbs Gallery in Wellington for the IHC Art Awards.
Future plans include introducing an Artist in Residence and Ngā Toi programme, along with launching a Boosted campaign in August, and supplying large scale art works for Bath Street pipe upgrade development hoardings. Watch this space!
Studio2 thrives as a community hub, thanks to the generous support of community funders including the Dunedin City Council, continually cultivating a richer more inclusive artistic landscape.
