Whanganui City College — June 28, 2022
Nau mai haere mai a Arahunga WCC kura. We have three classes in our Whanganui City College Hub for our secondary school aged students.
Our students work in class spaces located in the heart of the school. Having three interconnected spaces to work allows plenty of options for our students.
Our team of teaching and support staff are dynamic and enjoy working together to support, grow, guide and teach our tamariki (whanaungatanga, manaakitanga and mana tangata). We are proud of our targeted literacy programme that runs every morning for 2 hours and this is followed by our numeracy programmes. Our learning programmes are carefully planned to ensure that each learner’s individual needs are being met.
Our tamariki are included amongst the mainstream whanau at Whanganui City College and have opportunities to attend activities including: Art, Physical education in the gym and Music classes. Kai is enjoyed by our learners in the kura’s canteen alongside the mainstream whanau.
Our afternoon sessions include activities that give our learners choices and opportunities to explore their passions. These can include: Dance, EquiAchieve farm experience, Swimming at the Splash Centre, Friday Sports and Gymnastics at the Boys and Girls gym club. We also endeavour to ensure that our learners go on whole class planned excursions to bring our learning in class to life. Recent trips enjoyed by our learners have included a to the local museum, Double decker bus ride, Bushy park and a trip to one of the local gyms to have a go at lifting weights and running on the treadmill.
Our Arahunga School Vision and Values are interwoven into all we do. Visitors who come to our hub are encouraged to take the time to view our whakapapa wall as they walk down our corridor before entering our 3 classes. We value each other as a team, our learners, their whanau, our host kura Whanganui City college and our other classes sprinkled around our city of Whanganui.
