Being Shaped by the Biblical Story

Mark Chamberlain —

The Biblical Literacy and Discipleship Task Group has met twice now and is making good progress

Rev John Fox and I met with UC academic Dr Myron Friesen before Christmas to receive advice on the best way of researching the state of Biblical Literacy and Discipleship in our Diocese. Myron is a Christian and so understands our needs and offered us some really great advice. We want this research to be rigorous and as helpful as possible to our parish leaders.

This task group was set up by Synod last September with a mandate to research this question and report back this coming September. Find the exact wording of the motion that was passed in the attachment below.

We are also engaging with Associate Professor Dr Michael Grimshaw of the Sociology Department who is also keen to help us. John and I will meet with them both later in January to carry this project forward.

Growing as faithful disciples, knowing the scriptures, and being shaped by the biblical worldview is at the heart of our mission! The very best way of making new disciples is to encourage existing disciples to be "transformed by the renewing of our minds" (Romans 12:2). Finding out about our starting point would seem to be an important aspect of this enterprise.
