Tree Planting
In the term break we were humbled to have Matua Steve Bennetts and his team from Ballance come and plant native and fruit trees along theback fence. Ke te mihi nui koutou
"So humbled to be part of our Community Project!
Together, the teams at Timaru Hub and Timaru Service Centre planted fruit and native trees at Te Wharekura o Arowhenua in Temuka.
The Mãori school has had recent upgrades completed, including a new building, older classrooms removed, and the original school classroom is set to be preserved as a historical project too. The removal of classrooms created a bare spot at the back of grounds, so what better way to fill that space than with fruit trees and natives supplied by Ballance. When I was sourcing the native trees from Te Kete Tipuranga o Huirapa Ltd, Arowhenua Native Nursery (we wanted to support local), they instead donated 10 trees to the school. We brought a mixture of fruit trees, including Apricot, Peach, Nachi Pears, Nectarines, and a Plum hybrid.
The fruit trees create the opportunity of a new taste experience as well as a healthy treat for all the tamariki. Whanaungatanga/Community spirit at it's best!"
