Room 7 Update
We love our new 'Senior Campus' come and see all of the great things we've been up to!!
Our Senior Campus
This term we are very excited and lucky to be learning in two classrooms on Strathallan Street / Portsmouth Drive. Our teachers have provided us with many new opportunities including; daily bus trips to and from our campus, a big area for morning tea by the Harbour, visits to the Edgar Centre for P.E and fortnightly library trips. Our classrooms are super spacious and sunny, with a few extra rooms that we like to call ‘breakout’ spaces for learning, testing and sewing! We are incredibly grateful to have the privilege of learning in these classrooms. Have a look at the pictures below to see what we’ve done with our new space!

Learning about ANZAC Day
We have been learning about ANZAC day and commemorating those who died and fought for us in the war. We have learnt lots of new facts and information, some examples of these are A.N.Z.A.C. stands for the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. On the 25th of April 1915, Australian and New Zealand soldiers formed part of the allied expedition that set out to capture the Gallipoli peninsula. On this day, 16,000 Australian and New Zealand troops landed at what became known as ‘Anzac Cove’ as part of a campaign to capture the Gallipoli Peninsula but they met surprisingly strong defences. We also learnt that 350,000 small and 16,000 large silk poppies were ordered for the first A.N.Z.A.C celebration. These became known as 'Anzacs' and the pride they took in that name continues to this day.
We then used our new knowledge to complete our A.N.Z.A.C puzzle and we made our own poppy origami. Take a look at the pictures below.

Collaborative Group Tasks
We are very fortunate with the amount of space our new classrooms provide. Every Friday afternoon, Rooms 7 & 8 participate in collaborative group tasks.
Our teachers put us into groups and give us challenges that we must complete by working together in our groups. These challenges range from backwards pictionary, blindfolded walks to toss the ball, lego building challenges and more! My favourite part of the collaborative tasks is that the teachers group you with people you wouldn't usually work with. I think this is great because this will help us prepare for working with different people in the future. Not to mention it's a great and fun way to end the week!

Visiting the Edgar Centre
We are lucky that our classroom is only a couple of blocks away from the Edgar Centre and our teachers are super sporty! Every Tuesday afternoon we get to go to the Edgar Centre for PE. Last Tuesday was the first time visiting there for some of us kids and we were surprised to see how big the Edgar Centre was! When we arrived, we did fast feet for a warm up and played candle sticks. Following this, Room 8 learnt Futsal skills and drills meanwhile, we, Room 7 focused on uni-hock. We practiced our passing and dribbling with the hockey sticks focusing on the correct technique. After half an hour, we swapped with Room 8 and it was our turn to have a go at Futsal skills. We had a blast at the Edgar Centre and we are looking forward to visiting again every Tuesday!

Our Completed Term 1 Art Work
Our term 1 Art focus was 'journeys'. For this we chose a landmark to create the surroundings and the mode of transport to tell the journey. We used pencil first, then vivid outlines and pastels. We cut out our mode of transport separately and glued them on our blended pastel background. To complete our art, we used hairspray to hold it all in place. Here are some examples of our art. They look great in our new classroom!
