Ruma Rima - Our start to Term 3!
We are back into Term 3 and as always, we are off to a busy start! This term brings many exciting things and in turn, lots of fun learning experiences. Read on and check out what we have been up to.
Term 3 is off to a chilly start. We made a splash with some gumboot art and got a taste of a real wintry day when we had some snow showers. We splattered dye to resemble a big puddle and added some vibrant colour to the cold with some bright gumboots.
Starting in July, the Women's World cup commenced and as you know, our own nation is hosting alongside Australia! This has been very exciting for us at school. We are finding lots of ways to weave this into our learning. We have wrote about football, created our own football stadiums, made digital art and much more.
Every second Monday, Pip comes into our class. She helped teach us how to use an application called Adobe Fresco. With this app, we created FIFA World Cup digital art. We have been learning how to layer images and draw on top of them. Check ours out!
Each morning, someone fills in our Women's World Cup score chart to keep track of who is moving to the next stage in the competition. Although the Ferns are no longer playing, we have been celebrating them and many other teams and cultures.
We have students from lots of places across the world in our class such as; Argentina, Japan, India and more.
Nehuen recently gave us a lesson in Spanish. He focused on animals.
On Monday of Week 3, we finally had our Cross Country race! It had been cancelled the week before due to terrible weather!
It ended up being such a beautiful day for our run and we all gave it our best shot! Here are some pictures.
Congratulations to all involved and the four students from our class who made it to the Hill's Cluster race - Billy, Samy, Harry and Gemma.
This term our Technology focus is Fabric tech. We have been learning how to hand sew. Miss Mack is teaching us the basics to get us prepared for a project. We have learnt how to thread a needle, sew a running stitch and sew a 4-hole button. We have all had to show one of our 3R's A LOT during our sewing sessions... and that is Resilience.
Learning a new skill is always a challenge and we have been reminded of how important it is to have a growth mindset.
We are lucky to have quite a few sewing superstar students in our class that have practice in sewing at home! They have been very helpful. We can't wait to keep growing in confidence and sew our own squishies.
Our term has been lots of fun so far. We can't wait to see what new learning is coming next. We also have our student teacher from the University of Otago, Miss Yeo, teaching us for a few weeks starting in Week 6!
We hope you enjoyed having a glance at what we have been up to recently.
Keep warm!
