Room 1
Sunny mornings at Arthur Street School
Term 4 has started off with athletics, summer sports rotations, fractions and an awesome student teacher has joined Room 1, Emma Ryan. Welcome!
Here are some of the highlights so far.
Dance
This term Tamara Vial, a member of the Otago Nuggets Dancers has come to teach the junior school some modern dance. We are going to share our dance moves at upcoming assemblies. Watch this space for details on the dance assembly and here is a sneak peek.
Fractions with Miss Ryan
Miss Ryan has been teaching us all about equivalent fractions, reading fractions and how to recognise them either written or in a picture. We made some fraction sandwiches. We had to cut them into larger fractions other than halves or quarters. Miss Ryan asked us questions like, “if you eat 2 pieces, what fraction do you have left?” We had fun and got to eat a yummy snack too.
Outside in the sun
We have been lucky enough to get out and embrace this awesome Dunedin weather recently. We have had the speaker with some music and the skipping ropes. Miss Ryan and I got the giant ropes out for the children to see how many skips they could get. We had some children getting 40 skips. Ka pai!
