Day 4 update - The day of stairs!

The dawn chorus once again greeted us. Beats an alarm clock! We’re well into our morning routines now, a good breakfast, bunk inspection and day bags packed. We ventured to observation rock, a wonderful view of Ulva Island and the surrounding islands. From here, we walked down to Golden Bay where we spent some time sketching and capturing an image from the bay from boats to boat sheds, water taxis and the beautiful bush. Following this, we hit the stairs for our walk to Deep Bay enjoying the native flora and fauna. On our arrival, it was time for a quick morning tea bite before walking back down to Oban township and over to Bathing beach where we paddled and built sandcastles in the sand. Following this, we went back to camp for lunch before our museum visit. Lots of learning took place at the museum as we explored the historic items, artifacts, photographs and archival material related to the story of Stewart Island / Rakiura.

To finish our afternoon we had a basketball tournament and we even had a teachers/parents team. Lots of laughs, cheering and fun was had by all! By this time we were all hungry and ready for our delicious burgers and chocolate cake. The last of our camp activities was a dance party before we made our way back to our rooms to start packing our bags. What a blast we’ve had here at Stewart Island. Amazing memories for all!! See you all tomorrow 😊
