Goodbye Summer - Hello Autumn!
Term 1 has just been flying by. Room 3 have been super busy learning, making, creating, constructing and playing this term. We have been lucky to have two new students join us - Yhula from the Phillipines and Isaac from Fiji. A warm welcome to our new students and their families to the Dunedin and the Arthur Street School community.
Caterpillars to Butterflies
We are having a wonderful time observing the life cycle of the monarch butterfly in our classroom! We have seen a tiny egg on a leaf, caterpillars munching their way through leaves, and chrysalis forming.
When a butterfly emerged from it's chrysalis, some students sprung into action to build a house or safe place to keep the delicate butterfly safe, while it built up the strength to fly.
Thank you so much to the parents who bought in the caterpillars, eggs and chrysalis.
Swimming at Moana Pool
Our Term 1 swimming lessons are drawing to a close, with our last lesson on Friday. Room 3 tamariki have been enjoying their time in the pool and have increased their skills and confidence. Thank you to all our parent helpers who have been helping out this term! We look forward to being back at Moana Pool in term 4.
Harry Potter Wands!
We are super lucky to have Pip come in once a fortnight and teach us all sorts of amazing things for digital technology. As an introduction to our Electrical Circuits learning, Pip taught us how to make our very own light-up Harry Potter wand that we got to take home. The copper tape was tricky to peel off it's backing! We learned about battery safety, then carefully attached own battery to the copper tape to complete the circuit, lighting up the wand. Thanks, Pip.
Construction
As part of "Discovery" on Fridays, the junior school has been practicing their skills with hammers and nails. It's been so impressive to see the resilience of Room 3 students who have persisted with hammering the nails into wood, even when it got tricky. Some have made wooden cars with bottle top wheels which they carefully hammered in themselves. Ka pai, Room 3.
