Luke Hay (above) achieves Merit at mathematics comp......

Earlier this year ten Ashburton College students entered the University of Otago Junior Mathematics Competition. 

This is a difficult, written problem solving competition. The date was during lockdown so students completed the one hour examination at home. Their work was then scanned and sent away to be marked. 1944 of the best Mathematics students in New Zealand entered the competition. 

Several Ashburton College students did very, well but the stand out was Luke Hay of 9GSS. He achieved a grade of 73 which placed him in the top 10% of Year 9 students and earned him a Merit certificate. This was an outstanding result.
