13 Biology camp at Portobello
Our students are currently working in the field immersed in authentic practical biological investigations that they have designed themselves, and they are loving it!
Our Year 13 Biology students have a 3-day camp in Dunedin this week which provides their first opportunity to design, carry-out, analyse and interpret investigations involving live animals. Studying at the New Zealand Marine Studies Centre, our budding biologists have been thrown into real-world Science, learning about the practical realities of experiments as well as exploring concepts such as bioethics. Opportunities like this are simply not possible in the classroom and the personal growth of students after just one day is immense. As well as working towards an NCEA Level 3 standard, students also now have first hand experience of university laboratory and fieldwork.
