Podium places for College on the powder.
A well organised event and great snow on Mt. Dobson saw the Ashburton College team perform well and bring home some podium finishes from the Aoraki Ski and Snowboard Championships.
The inclemental weather of mid-August took a break and allowed for the Aoraki Ski and Snowboard Championships to proceed. Mt. Dobson hosted the event on 16 August and saw 26 Ashburton College skiers and snowboarders take on other school snowsport enthusiasts from throughout the Aoraki region. The fresh powder snow and calm conditions treated Ashburton skiers and snowboarders well with some stellar individual and team results. Kayne Johnston took out the Year 11-13 Individual Boys' Ski title, while the Girls' Ski team comprised of Mya Johnston, Alia Forrester,Amelie Robertson, and Jorja Roulston claimed second place in the teams. Mya and Alia were 5th and 6th respectively in the Girls' individual standings. The success continued on the other side of the mountain where the Boys' Snowboarding Bordercross team of William Wills, Kyle Cabading, Ollie Bubb and Ethan Gray team took out first place. Nick Collie finished second in the individual standings with another Ashburton border, William Wills, taking out third. Many thanks go to Sport canterbury and the Mt Dobson volunteers for the outstanding organisation of the day.
