ASHCOLL GIRLS RUGBY
ASHCOLL VS CRAIGHEAD......15/5/2019.......................
Traditionally Craighead are a good team to play against, and last nights game was no exception. They got off to a real flyer and we found ourselves 10-0 down after about 5 minutes. The girls finally got their nerves under control, got a bit of structure into their game, and started to get stuck in.
Number 8 and Captain Aidan Elvines, back from injury, lead by example with a lot of pretty stout defence, and direct running, new-comer Grace Bleach was a menace with ball in hand, and Hooker Emma Rollinson again showed that she doesn’t mind a bit of rough stuff. Loose forwards Tyla Harraway and Megan Hurley were in to everything, and again Full Back Naumai Terekia showed everyone how tackles should be made.
The backs, when they ran with the ball were exciting to watch, and Winger Tara Mellish’s long range try showed that she has some real pace. On the back of a solid team effort, we went in to the break 22-17 up.
After changes at halftime, more new girls were given the opportunity to show us what they could do. There was still some good stuff on display, with centre Jorja Johnston eager to get involved, and new member to the district Manee Mannex-Peters showing that given the right opportunities she is a player to watch.
Unfortunately we couldn’t keep up the pace, and eventually Craighead came out on top 53-27.
