Maddi Lowry competed at the Cycling NZ Schools South Island Road Champs at Ruapuna Raceway, Christchurch on the 9th/10th July 2022, representing Ashburton College in the Under 20 Women’s grade. The competition was over two days, with the Time Trial on Saturday and the Road Race on Sunday. 

On Sunday, the conditions for her 31.5km Road Race were much better for racing; cold but a dry track. Maddi started the day sore and stiff after her accident the previous day but after a good warm up she felt better and ready to race.

Maddi rode a fantastic race, coming away with the win. Maddi and Lola Bryson-Boe from Christchurch Girls High School broke away from the bunch early in the race and the two of them battled it out until the final 100 metres, with Maddi winning with a well-timed sprint.
