Musical ear syndrome: What is it, and what can you do about it?

Some people with tinnitus hear music when there isn’t any. This is known as musical ear syndrome (MES) or ‘auditory hallucinations’. The composer Robert Schumann likely had MES as later in his life he reported hearing music or choirs singing at night.
