Moanamana
An exciting opportunity to partner with Ngāti Wheke, the Naval Point Yacht Club and other users of Whakaraupō Harbour to create a rich learning environment.
Monique, Bruce and Anna attended an introduction hui with Sport NZ and the Naval Point Club a week or so ago about a potential project called Moanamana focusing on the redevelopment of the harbour alongside Sport NZ and Ngāti Wheke. We are still working through exactly what this project is and how Aupaki could be involved.
They are looking at redeveloping Naval Point Yacht Club (earthquake repairs) and the surrounding area, creating a mini marine reserve. The Moanamana project is looking at involving tamariki and kura in the development and implementation of learning in and about whakaraupō harbour through three strands
- learning about the potential of wind as a power source - sailing experiences.
- learning about the local habitat and taking action to protect it.
- learning about the early Māori history of whakaraupō and sharing this with visitors to the area.
More information can be found about the inaugural Moanamana project in Wellington.
