Aupaki Tech Fest 2019
Tech Fest took place in early Term 2 for the tamariki of Aupaki. A huge thank you to the kaiako/teachers who ran workshops and made the whole event possible!
Tech Fest was another successful Aupaki event with 96 children participating from all kura. This year Tech Fest was held at both Sumner and Redcliffs Primary. Tech Fest continues as a significant event on the Aupaki calendar well received by students, parents and staff.
There were eight workshops this year:
1. Stop Motion
Are you a creative thinker who likes to make things and tell a story? Come to this workshop to plan and make an awesome stop motion video which we will upload to share with your family and friends. We will be using all sorts of things including lego, clay and even making some set backdrops and sound effects!
2. App Creator
So, how is an app created? If you want to learn more about creating apps and have a go at creating your own then this is for you. We will look at a couple of different app creation sites and you decide which one works best for you.
3. Sphero Winter Olympics
You will develop your problem solving skills while coding a sphero to compete in a range of winter olympics events.
4. e-Textiles
Use conductive thread, LEDs and batteries to create electronic fabric craft such as a bookmark or a light up minion soft toy.
5. 3D Printing
An exciting opportunity for you to try some 3D printing! During this workshop you will learn how to use the Tinkercad software. You will also get creative and design and print your very own 3D key ring.
6. Scratch + Makey Makey
Do you want your pictures to come alive? With Makey Makey you can make your drawing of a cat meow, a dog bark, your little brother scream! With Makey Makey and Scratch you will be able to do all of these things and more.
7. Coding with BBC Microbit
Get creative and have fun coding a tiny programmable computer called a microbit. Learn how to code a paper-scissors-rock game which you can play. Make a doorbell that works across the room. Play a tune, detect north, create a countdown timer and a love detector!
8. Music to my Ears
Are you a budding musical artist? Do you dream of creating your own music? If you do, then this is the workshop for you! We will be using GarageBand to make movie soundtracks and theme songs!
