Wiki Tuatahi - Te Kura o Te Tihi o Kahukura
The Year 2 & 3 tamariki have started with a scavenger hunt around the school, trying to find symbols of buildings and then writing down the name of the building. This proved to be a very engaging way to introduce them to this term’s Inquiry. They have then grouped the room names together, and noticed some of the themes behind the different spaces. They have then placed the names on a blank map.
The Year 4 to 8 tamariki were very lucky to have Anthony and Muriel visit from Canterbury Museum. They interacted with a number of items, trying to figure out what they were made from and how they would be used. At the end they were very keen to learn about the items and how they helped early Māori to survive and thrive.
The Year 7 & 8 tamarki have followed this up with a Solo Taxonomy activity to reflect on what knowledge they have, grouping this knowledge and then looking for connections between these groups.
They have also been exploring mihi / pepeha. From learnings at their Te Ahu course the teachers have guided them into pepeha for Māori and non - Māori. The kaiako commented that their Māori tauira are showing a lot of pride in identifying with and sharing their whakapapa, lots of great stories being told.
