ANZH Collaboration In Review

Te Tihi o Kahukura Heathcote Valley School —

Hope everyone has had a relaxing break, and enjoying being back connected with your tamariki and teams.

What an exciting term of learning we had in Term 2, the result of everyone's collaboration. Thank you to everyone for planning learning experiences, sharing these, along with sharing the successes and challenges you had along the way. So many highlights, including seeing the children's engagement and learning presentations as well as seeing teachers' plans being implemented at different kura. It was quite impressive to see what teaching and learning occurred last term, in a new curriculum area and content that we didn't know a lot about at the beginning. Thank you to everyone for the hard work and mahi that has gone into our ANZH collaboration project.

Below is some of the feedback from the google survey, which will help guide some of our future thinking.

  • I have been excited and empowered by my teaching focused on ANZH Curriculum this term. 91% Agree or Strongly Agree.
  • The collaboration process has enabled me to feel supported and prepared to teach this new curriculum area. 82% Agree or Strongly Agree.
  • The collaboration process has enabled me to share my knowledge with other kaiako. 81% Agree or Strongly Agree.
  • The collaboration process has enabled me to learn from other kaiako. 92% Agree or Strongly Agree.
  • My ākonga have been excited by learning focused on ANZH Curriculum this term. 87% Agree or Strongly Agree.
  • Due to this collaborative inquiry, my ākonga have had richer learning experiences that they would not have had otherwise. 73% Agree or Strongly Agree.
  • Overall, how successful have you found this shared inquiry process? 76% Successful or Very Successful.

What aspects of the collaboration process have you found most useful?

Shared planning (mentioned a lot), clarity in using the ANZH curriculum documents and shared planning, different ideas from different teachers.
Spending time with Aupaki colleagues teaching the same level has given me lots of support and encouragement and has been professionally rewarding.

How could we further improve the collaborative process if we were to do this again in the future?

Traveling to another school can be niggly, so maybe fewer, reducing in-person meets - more zoom so less traveling.
We struggled a little with the focus of this inquiry to find a way to engage the kids where they didn't think or say "We have already done this" etc ... as we have already had our navigation/explorers focus and a mahinga kai focus 2021-22.
It's been challenging, especially if you don't have a thorough understanding of New Zealand's history ... More of the front loading of information for all of us, such as the TOD that we had.

Would you like to collaborate in a similar way in the future?

64% - Yes
33% - Unsure
3% - No

If yes, what would be some areas of focus you would be interested in exploring?

Maths (x1), Science (x2), History (x5), Inquiry (x4), New Curriculum (x3), Technology (x1), Literacy (x2), Environment (x1), Te Reo (x2), Future PD Area (x1).

Anything else to share

I enjoyed this process together, it helped support me with my own understanding of ANZH and how to teach this.
Really important that what we do is really relevant to all sites.
It came across as a bit showy - who had the best display and not really focused on the actual learning of Tamariki.
It has been a great experience bouncing ideas off each other and meeting other teachers from similar year levels.
