Learning Conferences week two of Term 3.
If you would like to book a Learning Conference for next term - please follow the instructions on the notice that went home with your child 5th July 2019.
· Tuesday, 30th July - 3.30-7.30pm
· Wednesday, 31st July – 3.30-7.30pm
What are Student-led Conferences and what do they look like?
- Learning Conferences are a conversation between the student, the parent and the teacher / s
- Students have an opportunity to share with their parents, with the help of the teacher, their learning journey so far - and talk about their next steps
- All three parties sit together and talk about the student’s learning, looking at evidence of progress.
- Each conference lasts for 15 minutes, made through our on-line booking system which opens at on Friday, 5th July.
- Student-led Learning Conferences increase parental and students’ understanding of progress, learning and next steps, and support and encourage students to develop the necessary skills to become independent, life-long learners.
- The conferences will look a little different at each level, depending on the age and confidence of each child, however, all our students will be expected to talk about and show you their learning and progress as well as next steps.
What does the research say?
· Professor John Hattie: “student self - reporting is the most significant indicator linked to raised student achievement”
· Black and Wiliam: “the process of students reflecting on their learning, through effective questioning that promotes articulation of students thinking, is integral to student assessment practices that enhance student learning”
· Donald Hackman – Professor Iowa University: “From these conferences, students assume greater control of their progress, learn the process of self-evaluation, develop organisational & oral communication skills and Parents, teachers and students engage in open and honest dialogue.”
· If you would like to have a learning conference with your child and their teacher, please follow the steps below to book your learning conference. We are aware that many parents have regular conversations with their child’s teacher and may not feel that a learning conference at this time is necessary. This is perfectly acceptable.
