As we head into the holidays it is a great time to have a family discussion around being road smart while you are out and about. Here are some tips to help:

- Be aware of drive ways - take care to double check for cars and people coming in and out of drive ways

- Cross at the crossing - use pedestrian crossings and lights to safely cross the roads

- Be cautious of cyclists and traffic - when opening a car door be cautious of checking for cyclists and cars before exiting

- Wear the correct safety gear - ensure you wear the appropriate safety equipment to protect you if have a fall or an accident

- Be alert - try not to use digital devices whilst walking. These can cause distractions and you may miss traffic hazards

Before the end of the year, Avonhead are looking at further developing our school travel plan which will include improving safety on our streets to ensure all of our families are safe. More information will be coming out at a later date.
