Music Lessons @ Avonhead Bookings for 2020

Music Department —

Avonhead School offers music lessons through our very talented private tutors. To help families, we link up students with tutors and provide rooms for lessons. Families are then responsible for the invoicing and communication with tutors. We are always here to help but in the first instance please talk to the tutors. Some instruments can be hired if necessary. Please ask your tutor.

Avonhead School may be able to offer a scholarship for certain instruments, in particular the cello. This may be in the form of loaning an instrument free of charge or helping with the cost of lessons. There is the expectation that students who take up a scholarship will join the orchestra once capable, and commit to it through until Year 8. If you are interested in finding more out about our scholarships, please contact Darelle Busfield (dbusfield@avonhead.school.nz).

Avonhead School also offers the following music groups

  • Junior Choir - Years 3 and 4

  • Senior Choir - Years 5 - 8

  • Senior Chorale - Years 5 - 8 (auditioned)

  • School orchestra - Years 4 - 8 (auditioned)*

  • Percussion band - this is a new initiative for 2020 - more information coming soon

*Students (Year 4 up) who learn an instrument may be asked to audition for the School Orchestra. Mr Oswin, our orchestra conductor, will listen to students play when they have at least a scale.

All of these groups practise once a week, and perform at school and at different events throughout the year. There is no cost involved. A year long commitment is expected, including evening performances. Senior Choir is 8am Thursday mornings, whereas the other groups are during class time.
