Senior Kapa Haka Group win 2nd place in the Tūhono Kapa Haka Competition 2022!

Vicki Lewis —

Congratulations to all our tamariki who took part. They were outstanding and performed with wana (zest) and ihi (energy) and were awarded 2nd place overall!

It was the toughest competition yet with all schools giving flawless performance on the stage. Thank you to our awesome tutor Matua Steve, our wonderful kaiako, Mrs Lane and Mr Hay for all their mahi this year with the group, it is greatly appreciated!

We will go into battle again next year with new things to work on and a new programme again so are looking for our Y5-8 tamariki to join us in the Senior Kapa Haka group in 2023.

Eliana  (year 8)
Tena koutou ko Elly toku ingoa. This year our Kapa Haka ground represented Avonhead at tūhono for 2022, We took home, 2nd best waiata aringa, 2nd best haka, 2nd best waiata tira, and 2nd overall. We also won best use of instruments, and I won best female leader for the second year in a row. We are all very proud of this accomplishment due to the fact that we were up against some pretty tough schools. My personal experience on stage for these past 2 years as the female leader has been exhilarating! It was amazing to see our team work hard and try our very best! “Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi, ēngari he toa takitini. My valour is not that of the individual, but of the multitudes.”
